Chocolate Martini – Death by Chocolate

Finally!  Spring is around the corner and I can pack away my winter clothes for a few seasons. M exclaimed, “What will happen if you need them?”. I responded,”What else? Cry.” 😉

I have OCD–Obsessive Chocolate Disorder. I do not like it too dark or too light. I only like pure milk chocolate. No nuts, no raisins, no almonds. Just the pure kind. My friend at work, Lauren, calls me a chocolate purist. I do not recall a day when I didn’t have at least one piece of chocolate. Seriously, who does not love it?! Okay, some people have dietary restrictions that prevent them from consuming as much as me but I have never met a single soul that does not love chocolate.

This week the temperature is in 40s (Farenheight of course), and I decided to make several kinds of Martinis for M. Last week I picked up a bar of chocolate and a pint of chocolate ice cream from Trader Joe’s. He was wondering what type of martini I was making. I had browsed through a bunch of magazines and websites before I came up with my signature chocolate Martini recipe.

I am not into Vodka so I tried the Martini without the alcohol. It was delectable!

First, chocolate ice cream is blended with milk, melted milk chocolate, chocolate syrup and cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper adds a spicy kick. Then it is vigorously shaken in a cocktail shaker with 3 oz of vodka and ice cubes. Finally, it is strained into a cocoa powder rimmed Martini glass. It is impossible to have just one sip. After one glass you will want more.

If you want to decorate the glass with chocolate syrup first chill it (the glass, not the syrup) for 10 minutes in the freezer. You can get fancy with the chocolate syrup if you want. Mix a one-to-one ratio of your favorite dark chocolate and heavy cream, and melt them together. If you want to skip this step you can substitute in Hershey’s original syrup available in any local supermarket.

I am very new to the Martini world. If you have any delicious Martini recipes please comment below. I would love to hear from you.

I have used cocoa powder to design the rim. You can choose anything you want.

This is a wiki link, showing how to melt chocolate.

Yield : 4

Instructions

1. In a double boiler or microwave melt coarsely chopped chocolate.

2. In a blender, add melted chocolate, ice cream, milk, chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, cayenne pepper, and sugar. Blend it until smooth.

3. In a martini shaker, add 1 cup ice. Strain the mixture into a martini shaker. Add 3 oz vodka and shake vigorously to mix well.

4. Strain mixture into a Martini glass. Repeat until finished no more mixture remains.
