Tea float – tea based summer drink

Unless you are sipping tea flat in summer, you’re not enjoying it to the fullest.  tea float

My pilates, cardio, and dieting are working great so far. I have curbed down my sugar intake and I’m trying not to take more than 25 grams of sugar in any form. When I say to someone that I consume 25 grams of sugar, they almost have a panic attack. Well, sugar is in everything. If you are consuming rice, it has sugar in it. So I try to maintain that amount. I stopped eating milk chocolate and eating dark chocolate with a heavy heart. I have also stopped making rice and eating low-carb tortillas from Trader Joe’s. They are not as great as my mom’s Roti, but they are quite okay! I lost a couple of pounds and am hoping to lose a couple more. I also have started a Facebook album of my lunch every week. Most of my desk lunch recipes do not end up on my blog. If you ask for any recipe, I will post it!

Summer on the east coast is not scorching and unbearable like India! It’s pleasant and gentle. Generally, over the weekend, my husband and I get out, grab a drink and enjoy the sunshine. Cambridge is full of cafes, so finding a glass of ice-cold beverage is not a big deal. I do not make drinks at home often. Despite the fact that we love sweetened chilled drink very much, we are trying to limit our sugar intakes! I am attempting to consume only 25 grams a day and my husband 40 grams.

A couple of months back, my mom shared this recipe of Tea float. Dad and her made this and slurped two tall glasses of it. She wanted me to try it ever since then.

It is super easy to make and a real crowd pleaser. It can be easily prepared in advance and served at parties.

Tea float starts with a good quality black tea. (I highly recommend using a good quality black tea in this recipe) First, I made black tea liquor with powdered sugar. I have used Darjeeling tea. After straining and cooling, I poured that into tall glasses to begin with. Then I added the Spletzer. After that, I scooped out my no churn homemade vanilla ice-cream and carefully dropped it inside the mixture. (If you do not have time, you can replace that with any store-bought vanilla ice-cream). Lastly, I topped if off with chocolate syrup and honey. Strong dark black tea infused with the carbonated water. Vanilla ice-cream soothes them in a perfectly balanced way.

A glass filled with tea, ice-cream, Spletzer, chocolate sauce and cherry, is called ‘a soul pleasing glass.’ Okay, I need to find a better word for it – do you have any idea? For a day, I decided to ditch my diet and consume my tea float.

Instructions

1. In a saucepan, over medium heat, warm up some water. When the water starts to boil, add tea leaves and sugar. Take the mixture aside. Allow it to cool 10 minutes. Strain it in a jar.

2. In two tall float glasses, add tea liquor. Add 1/4 cup carbonated water in each. Now add two scoops of ice-cream in each glass.

3. Top it off with chocolate sauce or honey.
